Mexico City is a major city like any other. Act smart and you’ll most likely be completely safe and secure. Common sense rules apply such as avoiding carrying large quantities of cash, being aware of your surroundings, keeping your phone secure and avoiding walking around unnecessarily at night. It is recommended that you avoid the following neighbourhood given their higher crime rates: Tepito, Doctores, Iztapalapa, Lagunilla, Merced, and Guerrero.
Don’t drink water from the tap. Mexico has a literal award-winning gastronomy. Unfortunately, water is not part of the package. Just stick to bottles and you’ll be fine.

Mexico has a very high elevation, so some people experience some mild altitude sickness. It normally goes away in a day or two, but to prevent it, drink lots of water, rest and take painkillers if needed.
Carry modest amounts of cash with you, as a lot of places don’t take cards (especially street stalls)
Tipping is very common in Mexico. A 10% tip is pretty standard in any restaurant. It is also expected to tip the people who help you pack your groceries, restroom attendants, and bellhops.
Layer up. You might think Mexico is hot, but CDMX can be quite windy and rainy, so dress accordingly.

Use ride-hailing apps like Uber and Didi and avoid street taxis. Make sure the number plates match before boarding.
